Hello! The past two weeks have been busy in Room 6! Homework is going very
well. Please remember to send back the reading logs on Friday, and the math
homelinks come back every night. Make reading fun! Take trips to the
library - look for Robert Munsch books. We just finished our first author
study on him and have moved on to Kevin Henkes.

In shared reading, we have read The Rainbow Fish and When the King Rides By
while exploring such concepts as making connections and visualizing. We are
also reading Charlotte's Web for our chapter book read aloud (we will watch
the movie when the book is finished!). During October, we will be focusing
on Non-Fiction text features, so be looking for a lot more non-fiction
language coming home.

In math, we are starting Unit 2 which will delve into telling time to the
hour, working with pennis and nickels, and measuring lengths. Please hold
onto the Homelinks letter that came home last week! It will come in handy
when you are helping your child with homework.

We are working on sharing our ideas in writing, as well as writing our last
name, learning our phone numbers, and practicing good handwriting.

Last Friday we met with Mrs. Bush's class for the first time. Mrs. Bush is
a fifth grade teacher who I've combined classes with before for various
activities, such as morning meeting, buddy readers and this year for
community service projects. Stay tuned for more details as they develop!

Have a relaxing couple of days, and Happy New Year if you celebrate!

Warmly,
Mrs. Reed
