Homework

Homework will start this week with HomeLinks. HomeLinks are math practice
sheets that will be sent home the day of the math lesson. They are to be
completed and returned the next day. Students are going to be practicing
filling out their Reading Logs over the next few weeks and they will be sent
home and returned weekly. Other homework assignments will be added as the
weeks progress.

Below are a list of words that your first grader will be working on. There
are many different ways to practice these words. They can write their words
on colorful paper, use markers, type them on a computer, cut them out of
magazines, write them on an erasable surface like a white board or a magna-
doodle, or spell them out in magnetic letters on the refrigerator. For a
great site to order inexpensive magnetic or wooden letters, please go to
orientaltraders.com. You can get a great big bag for less then $5. Another
way
to practice is to play Concentration. To play, print words on index cards,
two cards per word, and place them face-down in rows. Your child tries to
make a pair and has to read every word they pick up. If they don't get a
match, they still have to read both words and then put them back down.
If you would like your child to have a head start, they can begin
practicing these words now. I will differentiate for them throughout the
year, so don't worry that they will not be challenged if they know these
words already. There are always more words to learn!
