  ACES Professional Development and School Improvement 2009
Milford Elementary Data Team Training
Purpose: To support schools in the process of planning for and implementing 
key educational practice designed to raise levels of student achievement 
across all classrooms. Data driven decision making and supporting the 
development of data teams at the instructional level will be the focus of the 
professional development and coaching.

Training Dates:
October 7, October 14, November 4, December 4, December 9 (2 TBD days in 
January)

Trainings and Coaching:
October 7 (3 hours)
Technical Goals:
1. Discuss goals, objectives, and rationale to the PD taking place through 
June
2. Develop big picture understating of DDDM
3. Examine the assessments being used and determine what data we want to look 
at on October 14

October 14 (3 hours)
Technical Goals:
1. Developing understanding of the 5-step DT process with mock data (this 
will give the chance to engage in the process and solidify new learning
2. Use the 5-step process with schools-grade level data (to be determined at 
end of previous session
3. Determine results indicators that can be measured over a two week window 
so that analysis of outcomes can occur at the November 4 training
Materials:
Mock Data for review with the 5-step DT process forms
A school based/grade level data set for review by the teams using the 5-step 
DT process.

November 4 (3 hours)
Technical Goals:
1. Review outcomes of the instruction since previous meeting
2. Review 5-step DT process with “results” data (examples of student work or 
assessment documents can be examined during this workshop

December 4 (3 hours)
Technical Goals:
1. Complete a “Fish Bowl” and debrief with full staff
2. Hold facilitated Data Teams for remainder of the time

5-step DT process forms

January Job-Embedded Coaching
In January (and possible in December or February) PDSI Ed Specialists and 
consultants will work in schools facilitating data teams. Discussions during 
these meetings will focus on the current level of implementation and targeted 
areas for growth for the teams moving forward.
In conjunction with the data team facilitation, leadership support and 
coaching through Executive Functional Leadership Support (EFLS) will provide 
training around the structures and conditions of success in monitoring 
instructional data teams. Principals will receive formal training on how to 
monitor data teams and will determine targets for themselves in managing the 
process in their school.
