I picked up more crayons and started asking him "what is this in Japanese" I was very amazed at what he has learned throughout this year.</FONT></SPAN></P> <P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><SPAN lang=EN-US><FONT face=Century>My daughter is always singing this Japanese song call number one. her big thing is to get the family to participate which is always fun.</FONT></SPAN></P> <P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><SPAN lang=EN-US><o:p><FONT face=Century> </FONT></o:p></SPAN></P> <P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><SPAN lang=EN-US><SPAN style="COLOR: #339966">Every time we watch a movie about <st1:country-region w:st="on">Japan</st1:country-region>, <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Sydney</st1:place></st1:City> likes to comment about what they are saying and she is able to understand and to follow the dialogue.</SPAN></SPAN></P> <P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><SPAN lang=EN-US><o:p><FONT face=Century> </FONT></o:p></SPAN></P> <P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><SPAN lang=EN-US><FONT face=Century>We are of Portuguese decent, and my husband and I speak the language fluently. We try to teach our kids to also speak it, but it is difficult because we speak portuguese as a second language at home. They do however understand it fluently, and can say some things in Portuguese. The story that I have to share is that every time I ask my kids to say a color or object in Portuguese, they say it in Japanese. It's kind of cute but at the same time frustrating because they both know it in Japanese, but not in our own language without some help. It is however awesome to see them learning such a difficult language at such an early age. POINTS OUT OR SAYS IN JAPENESE AND ENGLISH.. He also pretends to be "Ms. Hexagon (Ms. Haxhi-san)" and speaks to us in "Japanese"!</FONT></SPAN></P> <P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><SPAN lang=EN-US><o:p><FONT face=Century> </FONT></o:p></SPAN></P> <P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><SPAN lang=EN-US><SPAN style="COLOR: #333399">Richie went on the website while at my house one day to play Japanese games, and tried to teach me how to read and play. We laughed at my pronunciations, and we both really enjoyed ourselves.</SPAN></SPAN></P> <P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><SPAN lang=EN-US><o:p><FONT face=Century> </FONT></o:p></SPAN></P> <P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><SPAN lang=EN-US><FONT face=Century>We have gone out to dinner, albeit a Chinese restuarant, and Ryan has been inspired to educate us. He loves to tell us and the rest of our family and friends how to sing, speak, count, etc. in Japanese. This is a subject that he can get excited about. Unknowingly to him, the lady who cut his hair was of Asian descent and began to speak out in Japanese to him. We were shocked to hear him talk to her and so was she. Her voice said it all, "You speaking Japanese", and he replied "yes". When the haircut was done she gave him 3 lollipops instead of the normal 1 that they give kids.</SPAN></SPAN></P> <P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><SPAN lang=EN-US><o:p><FONT face=Century> </FONT></o:p></SPAN></P> <P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><SPAN lang=EN-US><FONT face=Century>Erica came home the other day & told me several Japanese words for articles of clothing - hat, shirt, sneakers, etc. Ariel will sometimes recite her numbers in Japanese to family members. She has also told us different words or poems/songs they have learned.</FONT></SPAN></P> <P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><SPAN lang=EN-US><FONT face=Century>Vanessa sings to her baby brother in Japanese.</FONT></SPAN></P> <P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><SPAN lang=EN-US><o:p><FONT face=Century> </FONT></o:p></SPAN></P> <P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><SPAN lang=EN-US><FONT style="COLOR: #3366ff" face=Century>Yes, last year we took Olivia to Epcot. We ate at Teppan Edo. Olivia had only taken Japanese for a few months; however, she sang Japanese songs with the Japanese waitresses. She bought a fan which the Japanese lady wrote her name on it. Everyone was so impressed how "authentic" she sounded.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>This year we went to the Japanese store at Epcot and Olivia was excited to buy a Daruma-san. <SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>She was excited to bring it to school to show everyone.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Olivia loves the Japanese program at Maloney and so do we! We were surprised to see the entire class session conducted strictly in Japanese--no English! Can't wait to come to her class next week! They also make comments on the differences in our cultures (ie. boys day, name of the backpack and its significance to a Japanese student).</SPAN></SPAN></P> <P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><SPAN lang=EN-US><o:p><FONT face=Century> </FONT></o:p></SPAN></P> <P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><SPAN lang=EN-US><FONT face=Century>I’m still learning some of the words Thomas says I’m happy he’s learning the new language.</FONT></SPAN></P> <P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><SPAN lang=EN-US><o:p><FONT face=Century> </FONT></o:p></SPAN></P> <P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><SPAN lang=EN-US><SPAN style="COLOR: #008080"><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 14pt">During a recent trip to a nearby Hibachi restaurant, Emily stated, "Arigato," to the server. He was surprised.</SPAN></SPAN></SPAN></P> <P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><SPAN lang=EN-US><o:p><FONT face=Century> </FONT></o:p></SPAN></P> <P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><SPAN lang=EN-US><FONT face=Century>We enjoy going to Japanese restaurants. There is one in <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Farmington</st1:place></st1:City>, ct. and one in the derby area that we enjoy. The boys will talk with the employees in Japanese. and they always say thank you in Japanese to the waitresses and hibachi cooks. I'm always so proud of this. and to see the faces of people when they see the boys speak Japanese is just awesome.</FONT></SPAN></P> <P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><SPAN lang=EN-US><o:p><SPAN style="COLOR: #3366ff"> </SPAN></o:p></SPAN></P> <P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal><SPAN lang=EN-US><SPAN style="COLOR: #3366ff">We were at a zoo and we came across a Japanese Deer. Once Ian found out the name of the animal, he proceeded to call the deer by the Japanese name (he was correct, I checked), then continued speaking in Japanese to the deer.
