Dear Parents,

I hope you were all able to dig yourselves out this morning!  What a fun way to end the weekend with a day in the snow!

We have a short but busy week in room 8!  Just a few reminders:

          - Check the television or Milford website in the   morning for any delays.
          - We will have a school wide sing along on Wednesday morning.
          - We have a half day on Wednesday!
          - No spelling this week!
          - Math test Monday!  We will not start our new chapter until after the vacation!
          - We are heading to Mexico tomorrow!  We will enjoy chips and salsa while we learn about Mexico and how they celebrate the holidays!

Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday and happy New Year!  Enjoy the time with each other!  For those traveling (I am a little jealous) but have a blast with lots of laughs and memories!  Until next year...

Love,

Mrs Troy

December 14th

Dear Parents,

I hope that you had an enjoyable weekend!  We are heading off for a train ride with Santa this afternoon so I am getting this off to you a bit earlier than usual!  :)
Spelling - We will be having a spelling list/packet this week but that will be it until after the New Year!  I try my best to post the spelling words on the website every Friday afternoon for the upcoming week.  If your list ever gets lost or you want to take an earlier look at them they are usually listed!  Please remind your child to put their name on the first page of their spelling packet that they are going to hand in to me.  Many of them put it on the page that has the list of words only and then through the week the list gets ripped off and I don't know whose packet is whose.  Thanks!
Snowman - Don't forget that the snowmen are due back to school on Friday.  I hope that you are working hard on them!  I can't wait to see how they turn out!  Once they are all back we will begin to write stories about our snowmen!
Holiday Raffle - Congratulations to James who got picked for one of the holiday raffles!  He went home Friday with an IPod!!  How exciting!
Holiday Craft - The following parents have been picked to help in the holiday craft on Friday - Mrs. Coratti (Nicholas' Mom), Mr. Kimmel (Max's Dad) and Mrs. Johnson (James' Mom).  Thanks to all those that volunteered, especially during this busy time of year!
School Wide Holiday Concert - On Tuesday morning, the school will gather together for the annual Holiday concert in the gym!
Math - We started our next chapter in math last Thursday.  This chapter focuses on sorting and classifying objects, corners, angles, sides, faces of a shape, plane shapes and solid shapes.  We will be learning names of solid shapes such as sphere, rectangular prism etc.  I will be sending home a sheet of the solid shapes that your child (or you) can refer to during this chapter so that we are calling them the same thing! :) This test will be given before the vacation so that we can start back fresh in January with a new chapter.
Room 8 is going on vacation! - The students and I will be going on a trip around the world!  Don't worry we already have our passports, bags are packed and we are ready to load the plane!  So that you don't worry about us, we will send postcards from different countries so that you can keep track of where we are!  Check your mail regularly!  Our trip will start this week and continue into the first week or so in January!  If you are interested in meeting us in a country in January let me know!  You can sign up to be our tour guide and tell us a little bit about a country that you may know about!  Maybe it is a place you were born or have relatives from!  We would love to sample a unique food from that country, hear a story from it, learn a game they like to play, check out what their flag looks like and maybe even see how they celebrate the holidays!  Let Mrs. Troy know if you are interested!

Recess – Don’t forget to send your child with warm clothing for outdoor recess – (hats, mittens, winter coat etc).  Some days we may go outside, even if it is just to run around for 5 minutes.  The fresh air does us all some good so we do try to get out if it isn’t too cold!

Room 8’s very own cookbook!  We will be publishing our very own cookbook!  I will be sending home a form tomorrow with each of the children.  Please neatly write down a favorite family recipe that you are willing to share!  It can be a dessert, appetizer or anything yummy that your family enjoys!  I will be putting together the book and giving a copy to each family to enjoy!  If you would like to email me the recipe that would be great too!  Thanks!

Acrosstic Poems - On Monday, Room 8 went to project week in the computer lab.  The students had written SNOW acrosstic poems prior to heading to the lab.  They then typed their poem onto the computer and printed it out!  We glued our SNOW poems on to pretty snowflakes that are now hanging from our "poet-tree" in the classroom.  The website that we used is now on our own website - It is under the links section of our website at the very bottom if you are interested.

Have a great week and don't miss us while we are off touring the world!

Love,

Mrs. Troy
