Message from the Principal, Mrs. Michelle Dixon

Dear Mathewson Community:
It is with mixed emotions that I share the following news. As many of you know I travel from South Windsor to Milford each day. I do not mind this commute because I absolutely adore the students and I am very proud of our school. However, back in March a principal position opened up in South Windsor and with a little push from my husband and my mom I submitted an application. As a result, I have been selected the new principal of Philip R. Smith in South Windsor effective July 1st.

I need to express my gratitude to the Milford community and the Mathewson community in particular. I am being sincere when I say the decision to accept the position in South Windsor was a difficult one. I could not love a school community more than I love Mathewson. The children here are amazing and I will truly miss each one of them. The families in this community are supportive and have been wonderful partners with the school. The teachers and staff members at Mathewson are some of the most dedicated, hardworking, student centered educators I have ever worked with. The students, families and staff are by far what make Mathewson such a special place and so hard to leave.

I know that the work we have engaged in during the past two years at Mathewson will continue. The changes to instructional practices are in alignment with the district’s vision and are working toward alignment with the Common Core State Standards. The teaching staff will continue to learn and grow in these areas and as a result our students will become strong problem solvers and thinkers. Mathewson will continue to be a warm and inviting school for all who enter.

My resignation to the Milford Public Schools starts a new chapter for me. I will be closer to home and my family. I will be able to work in the community which I live. I think the move will be a good one for me personally and professionally.

Thank you for letting me serve the community of Milford for the past five years. I have learned, grown professionally and I hope that I have made a positive impact on many students and staff during my tenure.

Fondly,
Michelle Dixon

PS Please read as much and as often as you can this summer with your children!
