Writing Workshop is one of our favorite parts of the school day. Our workshop
begins with a mini lesson on a specific writing skill. The skills range from
learning letter formation to editing writing pieces. Each mini lesson is
developed based on the needs that are seen through formal and informal
assessments of the children's writing. The children are given the opportunity
to partner talk to get ideas and work with partners to write their own
stories. They have also used writing workshop to respond to books that we have
read. Allowing the children with an opportunity to use written expression in
this workshop model is reinforcing literacy skills that will prepare them for
first grade and beyond.
