At the end of our dinosaur study we decided to measure the
length of a 70ft. Brachiosaurus. The children had been measuring objects in
the classroom with a plastic chain link that represented their own heights.
They found things in the room smaller, larger and the same size. We wondered
if all of their individual height links were put together would they be the
same size as Brachiosaurus. Most of them thought their combined chain would
be longer. Much to our surprise Brachiosaurus was still bigger than all of us.
With spring flowers blooming, the children became interested
in plants and seeds. We read Jack and the Beanstalk and each child is growing
a Kentucky Wonder bean. We have read about beans and how the seeds grow into
plants. We also discussed and read books about how vegetables are parts of
plant and are a healthy food. This week our class will begin to learn about
other nutritious foods. We’ll begin by reading a book called Munching Mark.
Mark only likes junk food until a visit to the dentist points him in the
direction of more nutritious choices.
