small medium large Reading readiness begins the first day of kindergarten. Every day we will have shared reading, shared writing, stories and instruction in skills that will help your child develop strong reading skills. We begin by asking parents to make sure to read at least 10 minutes a day with their child. The children are learning how to choose and take care of books. They have taken out their first books from the school library. I encourage you to enjoy reading the selected book to your child by discussing the story with them. It's a good idea to stop every few pages to recall what has happened so far and to make predictions about how it will end. This helps the children realize that it's important to understand what is happening in the story. If the book is returned on Monday, a new book can be chosen.
