Alumni Highlight #1 - Scott Schulte

Scott Schulte graduated from Meadowside School in 1978 as the vice president of his 8th grade class. He attended Jonathan law High School where he excelled in track, cross country and wrestling with several state titles to his name.

Upon graduation, Schulte attended Ricks Junior College (now BYU-Idaho)

Campus) in Rexburg, ID on a track scholarship. He served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Orange County, CA from 1983-85 and returned to Ricks College and met his wife, Karen. They were married in December 1987 in Provo, Utah. The couple moved back to Milford where Schulte worked for the Milford Citizen and as a wrestling coach at East Haven High and The Hopkins School. Schulte teamed up as an assistant coach with Charlie Phillips with the Jonathan Law High School track team. The team enjoyed great success with several all-state athletes and conference team titles.

The Schultes became proud parents of two sons, Taylor (1989) and Doug (1994). Schulte calls his sons his "greatest contribution to the world."

Scott and Karen divorced in 1997 and the boys moved with their mother to Bountiful Utah and Scott landed a job with Westwood Radio in Scottsdale, AZ. He covered some of the biggest stories of our time including Columbine, 9-11. Prior to leaving Connecticut, Schulte secured an exclusive interview with Oklahoma City firefighter Chris Fields, the man photographed holding Baylee Almond moments after the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building. That photo won a Pulitzer Prize. The interview with Fields came out in the New Haven Register on the 1 year anniversary of the bombing.

Schulte moved to Centerville, Utah and is currently a sports editor at the Davis County Clipper Newspaper and assistant wrestling coach at Viewmont High School. The Viking wrestling team has won state titles in 2002, 2004, 2205, 2006, and 2008. In addition, Schulte has continued as a freelance writer interviewing some of the world's biggest names including Michael Jordan, Derek Jeter, Kevin Bacon and presidential hopeful Mitt Romney. He has a website called www.scottschulteonline.com

Both Taylor and Doug are Eagle Scouts and Taylor, an all-star lacrosse player, is serving a full-time LDS mission in Winnipeg, Canada. Doug continues to excel as a football player and wrestling team member. Both are honor students.

UPDATE: Scott reports that the Viewmont Viking wrestling team won another Utah high school state title this year. Congratulations to Scott and all the hard work that went in to realizing this wonderful accomplishment!
