Grade 6Year One together….Already we have had a few weeks to start to get used to middle school! Hopefully your 6th grader is starting to adjust. Here are some quick facts about what you may be seeing now, and what you may be seeing soon as we continue our journey over these next few months and years, and some tips to succeed! He or she: -shows more self-assertion and curiosity -is socially expensive and aware -will exhibit self-consciousness -is physically exuberant and aware -has a range and intensity of emotions -is moody and easily frustrated -can relate feelings -is competitive, wants to excel, and may put down the “out group” -can still be silly. Where they’re going At 11, your child is making the transition to adolescence. You can help by encouraging g him or her as they: -cope with change -transition to adolescence -work on interpersonal skills -handle peer groups and peer pressure, and place greater importance on peer relationships -develop personal interests and abilities -take on greater responsibility for their behavior and decisions. How to succeed in 6th grade: Set goals Be organized Have a positive attitude Do not be afraid to ask for help Always follow through Study and do your homework Make a commitment Be persistent Desire to excel Take good notes Get involved with sports or clubs or musical productions Keep your locker clean Practice your locker combinations Use your study time wisely USE YOUR PLANNER Prepare for tests (and not just the night before!) Come to class prepared |
