During the summer of 2001 Mrs. FC traveled West Virginia to help rebuild and
repair some mountain homes. She traveled with 56 teenagers to join
500 other teens from all around the nation to assist residents with
home repairs. It was great fun and helpful.
During the summer of 2002 Mrs. FC taught two enrichment math class at Darien
High School. She also visited three interesting cities for several days
each:Boston,NYC, and Quebec in Canada.
This last summer 2003, she taught two math classes again and also initiated
a
new program with Mr. Scialo, the social studies 6th Silver team teacher,
called "JUMP START". The program was designed to help incoming 6th graders
become more comfortable with MMS. During a brief vacation she was awed by
the landforms of Zion Canyon in Utah and the cliffs near the California
beaches south of Los Angeles.
During the summer of 2004, Mrs. FC enjoyed meeting more than 80 new students
to MMS in "Jump Start" summer school. Though not a summer to travel, she was
thrilled with the opportunity to row sometimes twice a day and learn to row
in small boats. Up to this summer, her rowing was always in an 8 boat which
has 8 rowers in it call "crew" or "sweep" rowing. Also, in the summer she
visited her daughter in architecture school in Philadelphia walking in the
city parks and visiting museums with her Jen. Another wonderful adventure in
the summer was more time to read. She read the "Lord of the Ring" series
again and other good fiction.
Each Tuesday and Thursday morning during the fall and spring Mrs. FL rows on
the Norwalk River at 5:15am.
Mrs. FL has two daughters. Jen graduated from Amherst College
as a Fine Arts major and also graduated from the University of Pennsylvania
Graduate
School to become an architect. Jen has worked in NYC for one year as an
architect.
The other daughter, Erin, graduated
Northeastern University in Boston majoring in Accounting.Last Spring, she
completed her MASTERS in TEACHING at Pace University.
Erin has worked in NYC with a diverse community as a Math teacher in her
mother's footsteps. She has lots to learn to become a great teacher some
day.
Two nephews are physicists, one nephew is a
radiologist doctor, one nephew is a computer engineer ,one brother is a
chemist and her favorite brother-in-law is a mechanical engineer. Dinner
conversations with family members are often about scientific amazing things.
In September, 2007 my name changed to Mrs. Flaherty-Ludwig.
The mission for the 6th grade class members is to develop curiosity about
nature and technology, and to develop strategies to explore and experiment
using the scientifc method to gain an understanding of nature and technology.
