Homework

Weekend homework:
    You now have info on all the projects (Character Day, Dramatic Monologue, 
Visual Project, New Myth). Use this time to prepare your materials and create 
your plan of action.

Tuesday night:

     BOOK FAIR ON THURSDAY during English. Bring money if you'd like to 
purchase. 

Monday hw:
      Conventions break continues tomorrow.
      Blue Team will be visiting the book fair on Thursday. This is a great 
time to buy a book for recreation (and for summer reading). Please bring 
money, if you choose. 

Weekend homework: 
     FINALIZE your TWO vignettes for Monday. Use a proofreader before 
printing! 
Remember the rubric: STYLE, MEANING, SYMBOLISM, DEVICES, QUALITY.
Poetic and authorial devices: allusion, alliteration, assonance, consonance, 
rhyme, imagery, (sensory) detail, symbolism, figurative language, 
onomatopoeia, repetition. 

Thursday night:
     REVISE, TYPE and PRINT another vignette. You should now have TWO 
polished vignettes ready for class on Friday. Email, flash drive, or see me 
a.m. if computer problems. No excuses!

Wednesday night:
     TYPE and PRINT one polished copy of ONE vignette you've worked on today. 
Also, have a title (types: straightforward, wordy, curious, simple, or double 
title). Email, flash drive, or see me a.m. if computer problems. No excuses!

Tuesday night:
     Unfortunately, Field Day has been postponed. The new tentative date is 
Wednesday, May 28th. FYI: we will be having a REGULAR day with NORMAL class 
activities tomorrow, not a spirit day. Please bring all academic materials to 
class. 

Monday night homework:
     Have three "done-done" vignettes typed up and printed out for class. If 
your printer breaks, email me and/or come with it saved to a flash drive. If 
your computer is unavailable, see me in the morning. No excuses, please!

Weekend homework:
     Complete FOUR (rough) drafts of vignettes (THREE for period three) in 
your writer's notebook for Monday's class. 

Wednesday night hw:
      PERIOD SIX: complete the entire yellow sheet we started in class on 
vignette writing.
      PERIODS 2, 3, 7: if you would like five minutes of extra time on the 
test, you must see me outside of class (a.m., study hall, p.m.) BEFORE 
Friday, 2:45. 



Monday night hw:
     Study for Mango test tomorrow. Use your notes and the review sheet. Mr. 
Conrad will be in early (room 237) to field any questions you may have. Be 
sure to have paper, pencil/pen, notes, and your review sheet for the test. 
ALSO, if you'd like to pre-order Out of My Mind, return the slip with a check 
for $6.99 to Mr. Camillo.

Use any medium you like: a real newspaper, Microsoft Publisher, printer 
paper... anything! The article is what's important, but you will get credit 
for creativity and aesthetics. DUE MONDAY!

TONIGHT (Wednesday):
   CREATE A ROUGH DRAFT OF THE EDITORIAL. Scrap paper is fine, just focus on 
getting the language and the "spin" right. Use the base facts we brainstormed 
today in class.

   Work on your Outsiders editorial project, due Monday. 

BRING PAPER, YOUR OUTSIDERS BOOK, AND YOUR RRF BOOK TO CLASS ON FRIDAY.

Take one of the story ideas (from the writing exercises we've done) and
draft it into a complete (short) story, with a beginning, middle, and end, as
discussed in class. Be sure to draft OUTSIDE of your writer's notebook. Bring
both the draft of the story AND your writer's notebook to class on Tuesday.

Thursday (10/4):
If you're changing your 1st quarter indie book, you must do so by next
week, preferably by Tuesday.

Tuesday (10/2):
Choose an independent reading book for the latter half of quarter one.
If you're beginning or in the middle of one now, bring it to class to be
recorded. (Due in class by/on Thursday, 10/4.)

Monday Night:

Weekend HW:
Bring in a composition notebook (to be used as your Writer's Notebook
for the year). Used is fine, as long as there are plenty of pages left inside.

PERIOD SEVEN ONLY: As per your vote, vignettes are due tomorrow. Please
have them typed and finalized to be turned-in for a grade.

Weekend homework:
Type up all the vignettes you have thus far (two-three, probably). I
know they're difficult, but do your best.

Wednesday night:
Have at least one complete (well written!) vignette for tomorrow's
class. Feel free to type it up for a clean copy (optional).

Tuesday night:
Complete the rest of the sheet on "vignette writing" as best you can
for Wednesday's class. We will be writing in earnest tomorrow.

Monday (5/14) night:
Being thinking (searching your memory banks) for content for your
vignette(s). They can be personal experience(s) or things you've heard about,
etc.
