I moved to Connecticut from Upstate New York in August, 2004. This is my
sixth full year of teaching and my third teaching 8th grade English after
spending 3 years teaching 6th grade. I previously worked for several years as
a substitute teacher in various school districts while completing my MAT at
SUNY Cortland.
While I enjoy my time in class immensely, I also participate in several
activities outside of class. I started the MMS student newspaper, The
Dragon, and I've worked extensively on the MMS student musical for four
years. I'm also a big sports fan and coach JV softball at DHS in the spring.
My goal for every student is to not only see them improve as a writer and a
thinker, but to help them become comfortable writing in any style or on any
topic. Many students are afraid to write because it's difficult and requires
a lot of effort and practice. My job is to make writing enjoyable, and I try
to do that using a number of activities, strategies, and most importantly,
high-energy lessons that get students involved and make them think. In the
process, I try to improve individual skills and diversify the types of
writing students use and experiment with on a regular basis.
