| Grading Rationale
Sixth Grade Math 2008-2009
Course Description:
•The content of 6th grade math includes problem solving, decimals,
percents, graphing, fractions, geometry, and integers.
•The skills 6th graders will use are problem solving strategies and
basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) within
the content area.
•The assessments include a variety of quizzes, chapter tests,
projects, homework and class participation.
Grading Policies:
•Progress reports and quarterly report cards follow the grade
breakdown listed below:
o Homework/Class Participation: 10%
o Quizzes: 40%
o Chapter tests/Projects: 50%
• Homework policy: Homework is expected to be turned in on time.
Homework is graded out of 100%, while late homework automatically deducts
30%. Any assignment below a 70% must be signed by a parent and redone.
• Group work: For group projects, students will be individually
assessed (based on their continual contributions during daily classwork) as
well assessed as a whole on the finalized product. Students will be given
rubrics for group projects, which will help outline the keys to success.
• Quizzing and Testing: Quizzes will either be announced or “Pop
Quizzes.” Quizzes will be given about once a week. Tests will be
administered at the end of each chapter. Students will always be given a
study guide or practice test before chapter tests.
•
Extra credit/Extra help: Students will not be assigned extra credit.
Students are expected to do their best work on a daily basis and schedule
extra help as needed. Extra work may be assigned to assist students in
attaining a higher grade.
Averages for the progress reports and report cards will be rounded,
based on the following grading scale:
o
