~Review TOC speed graphs for tomorrow's quiz.  ACCELERATION IS NOT ON THE 
QUIZ--WE JUST STARTED ACCELERATION TODAY.

~Can you identify the key terms on p 45 for sec. 1-1, 1-2, & 1-3?  You need 
to know for test.
~Work on TOC#36 Astronomy Test Study Guide, at least through #4.

Tuesday, October 27
~Chapter 2 study guide pp 89-91: key idea terms & ideas for sec. 1, 2, 3, 4; 
#1-4, 6-10 (write out statement); 11-14, 16-24.
~Finish study guide #5-7.
~Fill out your bingo card.
~Do the crossword puzzle by Thursday.

~Use all resources to study for the test: textbook, TOCs (including quizzes), 
notebook, PowerPoints.

~Read about the planets, pp 62-77.  Continue working on the planet fact 
sheet.  It DOES NOT have to be finished tonight.
~DO NOT rely on the book for the number of moons the outer planets have.  Go 
to my Astronomy links for more details.
~Bring in your flash drive.

Planet Project will be introduced tomorrow and is due Friday.
Sun & Planet quiz is Monday, October 26.
Astronomy Unit test is Thursday, October 29.

Tuesday, October 20
~Use the websites to finish research for project.
~If you don’t have a google.doc account with school email, create, and 
confirm (see the peach sheet - on the TOC/Document page).
~Bring in your flash drive, especially if you are doing a brochure or typing 
info for your poster.
~If you want to do the powerpoint, email me your google.doc password and 
planet choice.  I'll create & share slide with you.  I already made slides 
for four students in period 4.

I uploaded two information packets from other teachers on the TOC/Document 
page.  Hopefully, they will be helpful if you are doing the "commercial."

Wednesday-Thursday, October 21-22
~Continue working on the planet project: brochure, poster, or powerpoint 
(google.doc).  Due Friday.

Friday, October 23
~Study for Monday's Sun & Planets quiz.  Use textbook, TOCs (esp. #31, 32, 
34), and powerpoints.  (We saw the sun powerpoint in class. I loaded one on 
the planets for review.)

form.
~TOC#30 Observing the Solar System & TOC#31 The Sun [section summaries, 
review & reinforce] - number the paragraphs, read and answer the questions.

We start the planets next week (researching, & starting a project).  We need
to have a quiz on the sun & planets (Monday, October 26) before the 
Astronomy Unit test (chapters 1 & 2).

I hope you have a wonderful trip to Boston.  I'll miss you all.

~Study vocabulary words key terms:  satellite, geosynchronous, force, 
gravity, law of univ. gravit., mass, weight, inertia, Newton’s 1st law of 
motion.

Quiz on MythBusters and Gravity & Motion this Friday.

Wednesday, October 7
~Finish graphing and answering the questions in Speeding around the sun lab  
packet.
~P 18 of gravity and motion (#24) packet Analyzing Data, answer 4 questions 
(do on packet).
~Study for quiz.
~Did you get your phases, eclipse, & tides quiz signed?

The moon landing episode is on the K drive in “Osterndorf” folder OR access 
at home by going to Discovery Streaming www.discoveryeducation.com  (user 
name – middlesexms; password – mmsdarien) and enter “mythbuster moon 
landing” 
in search box.

Thursday, October 8
~TOC#28 Gravity & Motion sec. sum., review & reinforce: number the 
paragraphs, read, answer questions with paragraph number.

The Astronomy Unit Test is October 29.
We still have to get to the sun and the other planets in our solar system.

~About 20% of Americans believe the NASA moon landing was a hoax.  (Who are 
these people?)  Do some detective work.  Identify some of these conspiracy 
theories that “prove the moon landing was a hoax.”  Record in your notebook.

~Answer in your notebook in complete sentences, checkpoint on p32 and section
review questions #1-5 on p34.  Follow the PEACH method: 
   P en (blue or black ink) or pencil
   E very question was answered
   A ll are correct
   C omplete sentences, including starting with capital letter, punctuated, 
     rewording the question into the answer, not starting with "because" or 
     a pronoun
   H andwriting is legible (or typed if necessary)
~Start studying for section 1-2 quiz which is next Wednesday, September 30.

Blue Research News Report--no school this Monday--your date is October 5.  It
is not too early to start looking for an article.

Thursday, September 24
~Work in the Earth & Its Moon packet for at least 30 minutes.  Use it as part
of your study tools for the quiz.  If you didn't complete the Tides sheet, do
that first (total time 30 minutes).

Section 1-2 quiz on Wednesday.  Use text, notebook, TOCs.  Power points are 
on TOC/Document page.

No review/reteaching Wednesday morning.  Get studying done this weekend.
(PLEASE, don't wait till Monday night!)  If you have questions about 
material, we'll go over on Tuesday.

~Continue working in the packet.  Finish by Tuesday.
~TOC#19 number the paragraphs, read, answer the questions with the paragraph 
number you found the answer.
~Go outside at the same time each day & record the angle of the sun with 
your astrolabe.  Check the times the moon will be visible and draw what you 
see.

the Power points are on the TOC/Document page.

~In notebook, outline the bold words & key ideas.  Pay special attention to 
the illustrations.

PLEASE GO TO THE "MAROON TEAM GOALS" PAGE.  Open the document and type your 
academic goal that you gave Miss Scott.  Save and print a copy.  Bring in 
ASAP.  I need this no later than Monday.

Friday, September 18

For period 1, this is the missed class work: 
     *p 24, Discover Activity: do with penny and quarter.  Answer the   
      question: How many times did the penny make one complete rotation?
     *Phases, Eclipses, and Tides power point (not tides).  Not all classes 
      finished the "eclipses" slides.  (on the TOC/Document page)

~Go to my web page and click on “Maroon Team Goals” (4th row):
    -Open up the goal template, type your academic goal (Miss Scott’s 
     class), save, and print a copy—due Monday.
~Checkpoint questions answered in your notebook on pp 25, 27, 29.  Answer 
questions to figures 6 (p27) and 8 (p29).
~27.3 days for the moon to revolve around the Earth & 29.5 days new moon 
phase to new moon phase.  Why aren’t they the same?

no sticky paper.
~Read section 1-1 pp 14-21.  Pay special attention to illustrations.

~TOC#6 Getting to Know Some Astronomers.  Complete using notes from power
point and TOC#5.

and illustrations.
~Answer section review questions on p 21 #1-5 in your notebook.  Use complete
