Friday, December 11th - Write a proposal for your play - describe and set the
scene, the characters and the PLOT. It should be about 2 to 3 paragraphs in
length. Bring colored pencils and a black pen to class on Monday, as well.
Monday, December 14th - Working on the Caribbean Map in class. Homework is to
begin the rough draft of your play. Make sure that facts about your pirate
and the typical life of pirates are imbedded into most dialogue and action in
your play. There will be a rough draft in class check tomorrow.

Wednesday, December 16th - Continue working on your script. There will be a

Tuesday, October 6th -
Write a rough draft letter to Congressman Jim Himes explaining why you think
America's health-care system should be reformed and describing your own ideas
for improving health-care in America. The rough draft copy is due THURSDAY.
The final copy is due FRIDAY. There are no "correct" opinions on this
controversial issue. You will be graded on whether you can express your
opinions clearly and make a strong case for your point of view. The letters
should be about two pages long, single-spaced, and divided into paragraphs.
Your letter must be courteous and respectful. If you want Mr. Himes to send a
response to your home you must include your address. Part of a congressman's
job is to listen to and respond to you - their constituents and they usually
do. The proper way to begin the letter is, "Dear Representative Himes." Your
typed name and signature go at the end.
Your letter will be assessed on the following five categories:
1. How well you explain your reasons for writing the letter.
2. How clearly and thoroughly you describe your ideas for reforming health
care in America.
3. Your inclusion of references to the current health care systems in the
United States, Canada, and other nations around the world
3. How well you organize your letter into paragraphs with an introduction and
conclusion.
4. How carefully you follow the conventions of writing – using sentences,
capitalization, spelling, and punctuation correctly.

Thursday, October 8th
The final copy of the letter to Congressman is due tomorrow. Please look over
your rubric to make sure you've followed the instructions. Submit two copies
of your letter. One will receive a grade and comments and the other will be

ideas to add to your own health care plan. You do not need to have a
completed Mr. Martin style "S.O.S." on this areticle until Monday. Talk to
your parents tonight about their views on America's healthcare system to help
prepare for Congressmen Himes visit to school tomorrow.
Friday, October 2nd
Students interview one or both of their parents about healthcare. Ask them
what changes, if any, they would like to see in America's healthcare system
and take notes.
Monday, October 5th - A rough-draft letter to Congressman Jim Himes

article and finish entering similarities and differences onto your charts.
Wednesday, 9/23 - continue on filling out your similarities and differences
sheets on the governments of Canada and the United States reading up to the
sentence about the House of Commons meeting in Parliament - if you are
reading the hard copy I passed out in class today then go to the end of page
three. If you downloaded the document from rubrics and handouts read until
the picture of Parliament.
Tuesday, 9/22 - go to my rubrics and handouts tab and read the first two pages
of Canada v. United States Government - it will tell you where to stop reading
in the article. Print out the similarities and differences worksheets that
are located on my rubrics and hand outs page and fill out the similarities and
differences found between the Canadian and American systems of government. You
can also just create your own similarities and differences vin diagram - I
just put those to up to give some of you structure if you need it!
Monday, 9/21 - Go to my rubrics and handouts tab and read the Canadian
Regionalism article and answer the questions either on a sepearate piece of
paper or answer in Microsoft Word and print out. Emailed homework and
homework on a flash drive that is not printed out are NOT acceptable and will
recieve a homework slip. We need a hard copy in class every day so that we
can work as a class.

Tuesday, September 1st - You will need to be a little bit thoughtful tonight
for homework. Every one of you is unique - you've got mad skills in one area
and some things you need to work on in other areas. I want you to think
about what makes you a good student - what skills or attributes do you have?
Are you organized, curious, a hard worker? Do you always do your homework?
Are you great at maps, math, creative, etc. I want you to TYPE up a short
paragraph on your personal "great student skills." Then I want you to think
about things that didn't go so well last year. Were you always leaving
things in your locker? Does your binder look like you organized everything
while skydiving? Are you forgetful? Are you just not that creative, or
detail oriented. This is the hard part - it is hard to acknowledge that
there are things we just aren't great at. Take a second now to TYPE a second
short paragraph on the few things you just don't do so well when it comes to
school. If you could pick one thing that would be the most helpful to fix
this year - or at least get better at - what would it be. Write it down - it
is your goal. Bring in your goal and the two paragraphs TYPED to class
tomorrow.
