Wednesday, November 3rd - tonight you will begin your mini-project for Veteran's day as well as finalize your goal for "mining for goals" and print out a copy for each of your core teachers. Beginning the mini-project means finding out whether you have a Veteran who served in your family - past or present. They do not have to be presently living, but it is helpful. You will be contacting your relative or talking to a family member who knows the history about the Veteran's life and service. The project is due next Tuesday, so budget your time. You are responsible for a short write up on your veteran revolving around the following questions. Suggested Questions for Veteran Interview Here are some questions to use during your interview with a veteran. You may also come up with some of your own questions. 1. When did you serve in the military and how old were you at the time? 2. What branch of the military were you in? 3. Where did you serve in the military? 4. Did you volunteer or were you drafted? If you volunteered, why did you do so? 5. What was your role in the service? 6. Did you have any exciting, unusual, or humorous experiences in the military that you could share with us? This is what will make your story interesting so be sure to ask it. 7. Did you have any sad, scary, or disappointing experiences that you are willing to talk about? 8. Do you have any comments on your basic training? Did you feel ready for your service? 9. Were you stationed outside of the Unites States? If so, how did you keep in touch with your family and friends back home? 10. What did you like to do in your free time when you were in the military? 11. Did your military service change your life? For example, did it have any positive influence on you, or did you learn any new skills? 12. Do you recommend military service for young adults today? Do you think it would be a good experience for everyone or just certain types of people? You may email the family member or friend and allow them to type their responses. If you have a close family member who offers pictures and lots of information you may choose to do a powerpoint and be in the running to present your family members story to the entire 7th grade next Thursday, November 10th when we will spend the entire day sharing these stories. Periods 1 and 2 will be an assembly with the entire 7th grade. Several Veteran's will be on hand to tell their stories and you (if you choose) may be able to share your powerpoint in the auditorium in front of the entire grade.
