1) Why does it get harder and harder to inflate a bicycle tire using a
pump?
2) An empty box has dimensions 1 meter long, by 1 meter wide, by 1
meter
tall. The mass of the box is 200 grams. When Jessie puts the box on the
scale, the mass is 1,400 grams or 1.4kg. What is the density of the air in
the box? DO NOT FORGET THE UNITS.
3) Based of your knowledge of density and pressure, try to explain how
a
hot air balloon works. Why does it rise?
4) If the barometer reads 30 inches and 4 hours later it reads 29.5
inches, what could we expect as far as weather (generally)?
5) If gas escaped from a factory and it had a density of 1.1 kg/m3
Would the gas rise or sink to the earth’s surface. Look at question 2 for
help.
