Monday - Study for the LIS Test - Test Review and Jeopardy KEYs are here
online to check if you were absent. Advance Warning Optional: You can bring
some form of sunscreen on Friday. (Spray is best. Date may change if we do
not have sun)

Tuesday - Prepare for the Notebook Check. Have Toc# 10-17 in order and ready
to turn in on Wednesday. I will take 5 of them. You have already turned in
#12, so don't panic over that. Work on your data table for the plant lab if
it is not already done. Read Wednesday's homework so you can plan ahead if
you are having printer issues.

Wednesday - Turn in the plant lab on Thursday. Turn it in typed and in lab
format order. Watch spacing, left adjust BOLD headings just as you see them
in the lab format. (available on-line) Center your title. There will be no
graph or conclusion. Your data table will not have data in it. If your
printer is not working and you do not turn in your paper on Thursday, plan to
stay after school in the libraru and print it. E-mail it to yourself so you
can access it in the library.

Bring something small and waterproof to carry home your plant if you want
it. At the end of the day Friday all the plants will be given away. They
may be taken home after school Thursday or Friday.

Wednesday - Work on the Tidal Profile Pictures
DIRECTIONS FOR TIDAL PROFILE
Use the facts about the animals in the intertidal zone found on “Changing
with the Tides”. Read the chart to determine where each of the nine animals
listed would be located at HIGH TIDE and LOW TIDE. Draw each animal in the
correct location doing the activity described. You will be drawing all 9
animals on both sides of the tidal profile: High Tide and Low Tide. Also
draw in all the plants as seen on page 18 of the textbook. (You do not have
to label the plants or animals) Color the plants and animals. Draw the water
up to the normal high tide line for high tide and normal low tide for low
tide. Label all the parts of the Tidal Profile. Here is a list of required
labels for both sides: Upland, Upper Border, High Marsh, Low Marsh, Tidal
Flat, Normal Low Tide, Normal High Tide and Exceptional High Tide.

Experimental Plan

Materials

Paper Towel, Bean Seeds, Foil, Permanent Marker, Label Stick,
Forcepts, Knife, 4 Cardboard Pots, Plastic Pan, Foam, Tap Water

Procedure

1. Use a permanent marker to label a stick “Beans – P All – G All – 4/27”.
2. Fill 4 cardboard pots to the top with Hyponex Potting Soil. Pat down the
soil. Add more as needed to fill it to the top.
3. Unwrap the wet paper towel with the germinated seeds. Select two per pot
that have a small amount of white root coming out. Be careful not to break
off any part of the seedling. It may be easier to handle with forceps.
4. Using a knife make two holes in the soil 5mm deep.
5. Put a seedling into each hole and cover with soil.
6. Put a piece of foam in a plastic pan large enough to hold all four pots.
7. Fill the plastic pan with tap water until the water covers the foam.
8. Place the cardboard pots on top of the foam.
9. Put the label into the side of one pot.
10. Gently sprinkle water onto the soil until moist.
11. Place the entire planting set up on the ground in the courtyard in direct
sunlight.
12. Add enough tap water to cover the foam in the pan every Monday, Wednesday
& Friday.
13. Record written observations of the control plants compared to the
experimental plants every Friday for 5 weeks.
14. After 5 weeks measure the height of each plant and the mass of the stem &
leaves. Record in the data table for all for trials.
