~A new link has been added to "Helpful Links" - Traceables - This site was created by a single mother of a 3 year old. She is not a teacher. She just started making worksheets for her daughter. The URL is www.lilbunnyhops.com

She would really like to talk to some kindergarten teachers to find out if her worksheets would be helpful. She would also like to know what other materials would be useful. She is planning on everything on her site being free. She hopes to pay for it with advertisers. She would really love some feedback. She am not really sure if there is a need for what she is doing. She is an accountant, not a teacher so she could use some input. I like the site and can think of times this could be very useful. Check it out and let Susie know what you think at carolsuew@gmail.com.

~Rosemary George told us about a great website used to teach phonemic awareness by having students listen for individual sounds and marking where they hear them in the boxes. There are blank templates you can print. Look under "Helpful Links" - Literacy Links - Elkonin Boxes Resources. She uses round flat counters (about 3/4" diameter) - for 3 letter/sound words, students gets 3 counters. Like for word "cat" - She says "what is the beginning sound", they usually say /c/. She gives positive feedback and tells them to "push" one counter into the box under /c/. Then ask for 2nd sound. Some can get it, but we all work on it, then when they say /a/, push a counter into the box under /a/. And then go on the letter /t/ sound. By using a manipulative to go with each sound, the students are learning more about each piece of the word, and it's helping them. Great resource Rosemary!!!
