Developing Positive Behaviors

With these activities we want to build a partnership between home and school by using the Heinemann "You and Me" series, which promotes positive character building traits. As part of our social studies unit, the books will be shared and then sent home to reinforce the concepts and to help each student to develop a personal connection to the topic or skill. For each book there will be a communication sheet/activity accompanying the book with a "confidential" envelope to return their responses (to develop trust between parent and teacher). We want this activity to develop and promote the home/school connection. The teacher will respond back to the children and their families after their personal connections are shared. These activities were developed by Susan Craig and Michelle Laslett of John F. Kennedy School in Milford, CT. If you have any additional activities for these books or similar connections with other books, feel free to submit your ideas.
