What We're Learning

SCIENCE
Welcome to 8th Grade Physical Science! This year science class will focus
on two main areas: Chemistry and Physics. Incorporated throughout the year
we will practice measuring skills and design/perform experiments.

We are currently working in the area of physics. We are learning about how
forces affect motion. Right now we are studying Ch 6. The beginning of the
chapter deals with falling objects and projectiles. Next we'll learn about
Newton's three laws of motion and about momentum. After Chapter 6 we'll
move to energy (potential/kinetic and conservation of energy). Energy will
conclude our study of physics and we will take a midterm on information
learned in the first half of the year--physics, metrics/measurement,
experimental design.

TIPS AND HINTS FOR PARENTS
Check your child's agenda pad to see if homework has been completed. Check
the homework assignment as well.

Your child should be studying nightly information that they learned in
school that day.

Check your child's grade sheet to see how they are doing on test, quizzes,
labs and other graded assignments.

If your child is absent make sure they check with me to get and make up any
missed work. They are still responsible for this work.

Talk to your child ( in the car, during dinner) to see what they are learning
in class. You might be able to share some knowledge with them or even learn
something new yourself.

Check out the links sites with your child to help reinforce the material we
are learning or so you know more about what we are learning.
