The following is a list of all the centers that the children will be working at through out the school year. The children have received a booklet,
which includes information on all the centers, the directions, the material needed, a place for the date, and finally a place to record the grade they
give themselves. The children have been given a "Center" folder to keep all their center work in.
The 'Center' or 'Work Station' gets set up only after the material has been taught and the information has been used independently. Centers are
meant to be used for practicing skills independently. There will be different levels of Center material provided. Centers or Stations will be set up
all year, however the material may change based on the needs of my students. For example, at the Book Search Center, the books that we do
our seaches on will changed based on when we read them as a whole group. Material at the Discovery Center will change based on the unit we
are studying.
One benefit to running Centers / Stations is that material will be provided for children with all different learning abilities and learning styles.
Various levels will be available, however the task or the goal for the center is the same.
Most centers in my classroom are meant for 2 children to work at at one time. The children are to work as a team. The centers are organized so
they can be taken back to desks or to a corner of the room.
There will be a rotation schedule for centers on scheduled Fridays. Centers will also be used for those children who have completed all their
independent work and have some free time.
Besides Centers/Stations, I have also prepared file folder games which focus on a variety of first grade skills. Children may go to 'File Folder
Games' when they have free time.
Children are asked to these Center/Stations directions:
1. Choose a center you have not yet visited.
2. Read the directions. (or ask a friend for help)
3. Get the material you need. (such as clip boards, pencils, pointers, paper, etc.)
4. Work quietly and to your best.
5. Score your work; 3 =Super, 2=Good, 1=O.K.
6. Record the score, the date, & clean up your work area.
