Accelerated Reader: Thank you PTA!!! 280 new AR quizzes have been incorporated into our database. Please see the AR list on this webpage....now arranged three ways to make searching easier: by TITLE of the book, by AUTHOR of the book, and by READING LEVEL of the book.

The Milford Board of Education pays for a wonderful subscription database: Grolier Online. Contains encyclopedia articles, dictionary & atlas, links to appropriate websites and quick facts. Students should ask me for the username and password to access Grolier from home (or feel free to email me for the username/password if you'd like to see all it offers!).

MEET AN AUTHOR: Popular children's author, Tony Abbott, will be visiting the Stratford Public Library on Sunday November 9 at 2:00. Mr. Abbott is the author of the Secrets of Droon series, Firegirl, and many other wonderful children's books.

Nutmeg Book Award: The fourth and fifth graders are currently reading the ten nominees for Connecticut's own Nutmeg Book Award. Voting will take place in January. This year's nominees include a mystery (Shakespeare's Secret), a science fiction book (Eager), a historical fiction book (Blood on the River), realistic fiction (Close Encounters of the Third World Kind; Free Baseball), fantasy (Three Good Deeds), adventure (MVP).....something for everyone!

Literacy Kits: Thanks so much to the teachers and parents who have generously donated books, puzzles, and toys for our literacy kits. The preschoolers and kindergarten students are enjoying them and learning so much. If you have "like new" wooden puzzles and easy reader books you'd like to donate, please contact me.

Thank you also to our families who have donated popular titles that their kids are no longer using. We appreciate the additions to the OHS collection.
