PTA is always looking
for volunteers for the programs listed below. There are plenty of
opportunities for working parents, stay-at-home parents and grandparents. If
you are interested in any of the programs, have any questions or suggestions,
contact a Board Member or click on the mailbox button in the upper right hand
corner.
After
School
Programs
Coordinate after school
programs students can enroll in such as chess, math and computer clubs. Have
ideas for after school programs? Contact a PTA Board member.
Beautification
Coordinate volunteer work
parties to keep the school gardens and grounds looking beautiful.
Bingo
Plan a fun filled evening
event for the whole family usually held in the Fall or Spring.
Bluefish Night
Come out and watch the
Bridgeport Bluefish with other OHS families. A fun filled night out!
Book Fair
Book Fairs are held in the
Fall/Winter and Spring during school and evening hours.
By-Laws
The By-Law Committee
stands ready to revise PTA by-laws as needed.
Children's Holiday
Fair
The Children’s Holiday
Fair is held during the school day in early December and gives the children an
opportunity to do holiday shopping for small, inexpensive gifts for their
families.
Donuts with Dad
Children share a special
before school breakfast with their dad.
Fall Harvest Festival
A new family activity held
on a weekend in October. Lots of activities and fun surprises planned for all
ages!
Fifth Grade Up & Out
A "graduation" event held
for 5th grade classes during the school day in mid-June.
Fine Arts
Fine Arts plans curriculum
enhancements such as assemblies and visiting authors/artists that take place
during the school day.
Friday Folders
The Friday Folder
committee coordinates volunteers to distribute weekly communications from
school to home.
Fundraising
This committee coordinates
fundraising activities during the school year.
Holidays Around the
World
A multicultural
celebration of holidays around the world
Hospitality
Hospitality coordinates
volunteers to bake and donate goods for refreshments for school activities.
Ice Cream Social
An annual evening family
event held in the Spring.
Membership
The Membership Committee
is responsible for collecting membership information and dues. Specific
records must be kept for voting purposes and the State PTA. Click

Monster Mash
The Monster Mash is a
Halloween party for OHS families held on a Friday evening in October.
Muffins for Mom
Children share a before
school breakfast with their mom usually held before Mother's Day.
Newsletter
Coordinates and publishes
monthly Appleseeds newsletter.
Nominating Committee
The Nominating Committee
is a standing committee of 3 or 5 active PTA members elected annually in
October to stand ready in the event of a vacancy in any office slot. Committee
members search for qualified replacements for those vacancies.
Plant Sale
The Plant Sale is held
annually in May before Mother’s Day. It allows children the opportunity to
purchase a gift for their mother, grandmother or other special person.
Publicity
Notifies newspapers and
other media of important programs and events at OHS. Submits articles and
pictures promoting our school.
Publishing Center
Great opportunity for
working parents! The Publishing Center coordinates volunteers to publish the
books of budding young authors at OHS. Activities include interviewing authors
during school hours. Typing edited manuscripts, graphic design and binding
books can all be done at home! Click on the Publishing Center link on the left
for more information.
Readapalooza
Typically a week long
event of reading activities taking place during the school day and may include
evening family events.
Reflections Art
Program
A family evening event
where OHS student's artwork is displayed for fun and recognition.
School Rewards
Programs
OHS participates in the

purchases extra equipment and supplies to benefit all the students.

Skate Night
An annual evening family
event held at the Milford Ice Pavilion. The rink is reserved for OHS families
only!
Spirit Day
Coordinate an annual
school wide activity or event for the children and provide them with a free
picnic lunch.
Spiritwear
Allows you to purchase
fall/winter and spring/summer clothing with the OHS Logo to show your school
spirit.
Staff Appreciation
An annual event providing
teachers and staff with some time to enjoy a great luncheon. Volunteers donate
food and monitor classrooms.
Summer Reading
Summer Reading is an
incentive program that encourages students to read during the summer. A
special award is given to each student turning in their reading log.
Sunshine
Responsible for sending
cards and gifts to student’s families, teachers and staff due to an event such
as births, illness, etc.
TV Turnoff Week
Coordinate this annual
event with the School District TV Turn Off Week to provide ideas and events
for families to enjoy instead of watching television.
Website
Responsible for updating
and maintaining the PTA-Parent Resource section of the OHS website.
