Publishing Center

TEACHER QUICK FACTS

What is the Publishing Center?

The OHS Publishing Center is a PTA sponsored resource for all teachers and their students. The publishing center is staffed by parent volunteers.

Students written works are typed and bound into bound books. Each student is presented with a copy of the book and a matching bookmark. Additionally, a copy of the book is provided to the OHS Media Center where it is shelved in the section dedicated to all students' published books, both past and present.

What is the Teacher's Role?

The teacher along with the student decide which fiction, non-fiction, poetry, common theme or other works they would like to have published.

What is the process?

  1. Teacher and student ready a manuscript checking grammar, spelling and legibility
  2. Teacher contacts Room Interviewer or completes Interview Request Form to set up an interview time with the author. Click here for Interview Request Form.
  3. Room Interviewer completes appropriate forms and returns to Publishing Center Coordinators.Click here for OHS Publishing CenterInterview Forms.
  4. The Publishing Center Coordinators assign manuscript for typing, graphics and binding.
  5. The completed book is generally returned to the teacher within a 2-3 week period

The Publishing Center is open from late October to early May. Although production in any given year varies, in general between 250 and 300 manuscripts come through the Publishing Center doors a year

**IDEAS**

Students type their manuscripts in the classroom or computer lab then illustrate. We'll scan it and turn it into a colorful bound book.

Students hand write and illustrate their own books. We'll scan it and turn it into a colorful bound book.

Students write and illustrate a story at the beginning of the school year. At the end of the school year they write and illustrate another story. We'll scan it and turn it into one colorful bound book so they can see the progress they have made.

Students write a story. We'll type it and return it for illustration. Send it back to us for scanning and binding.

We'll create bound blank books for your class. Make a special gift for a family member.

Over the past couple of years, we have begun to utilize scanning and new software technology ! This has allowed us to develop new and varied formats for the students' books. Many of these new ideas were developed through the collaboration of teachers and Publishing Center volunteers.

We would be happy to hear your ideas! Just drop a note in the Publishing Center Mailbox!
