I have been teaching at Pomperaug for 12 years. I receieved a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary and
Special Education from the University of Delaware and a Master's Degree in Learning Disabilities from
Southern Connecticut State University. I currently participate in the Connecticut Department of
Education Math and Science Partnership Grant, through which I receive training in coaching other
teachers in instructional and assessment practices.
I taught first grade at PES for 10 years before moving to second grade. I am the Math Instructional
Teacher Leader at Pomperaug. I have had extensive training and experience using Guided Reading
and use an integration of The 6 Traits of Writing and Writers' Workshop as the foundation of my
Writing instruction.
My teaching philosophy is to ensure that all students are active learners in my classroom. I pose
problems and challenges to the students to empower them to discover concepts on their own
through exploration, discovery, prediction and analysis of their own work. I find that this fosters a
deeper understanding of concepts and a greater confidence in their own learning abilities. I look
forward to working closely with you as parents to provide each child with an individualized,
comprehensive, and happy second grade learning experience!
Our class mission is to be the best we can be. We all learn together,
respecting, encouraging and supporting each other along the way. We have
one class rule which all are encouraged to remember and do our best to
achieve:
LET EVERYONE LEARN!!
