Letter from the Principal

Dear Parents,
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Pumpkin Delight School.  Our staff prides itself in the sense  of community that has been cultivated within our building.  I am sure that you will find the culture and climate of our school to be child centered, warm , nurturing, and inviting.  We strive to meet the needs of all of our students.
We at Pumpkin Delight School recognize that parents are a child’s first teachers. They learn by what they hear and see at a very early age.  As children grow and move through the elementary years, they learn through numerous educational experiences provided within the classroom setting.  At Pumpkin Delight School, we believe that hands -on experience and practical application both in and out of the classroom are important.  We encourage our students to learn from their teachers and their peers and we provide numerous opportunities for student self-reflection and critical thought.
We recognize the wide variation among learners and strive to provide balanced instruction to address specific student need. The objectives of our curriculum are well-planned, ongoing, and systemic.  We believe that the areas of reading/language arts, math, science, social studies and technology can be integrated throughout the school day.  At Pumpkin Delight, we build upon skills and objectives previously taught and believe that our curriculum can be customized to address all styles of learning.
My role as the building administrator is to be the instructional leader who guides and supports teachers and children as they embark upon the teaching and learning process.  Collaboration and teamwork is the rule rather than the exception at Pumpkin Delight School.  We are extremely proud  of the progress that our students make academically, socially and emotionally.
Our staff recognizes that parents as partners in a child’s education is a key to a child’s success in school.  Support at home assists educators in facilitating positive growth for children.  We maintain a feeling of welcome when parents enter our school and encourage parent involvement and participation.  Finally, we believe that the social and emotional growth of children can and should be part of a child’s experience in school.  Character building is practiced daily.  First and foremost, children must learn that if they are to be successful in life, they must learn to interact positively with peers and to respect differences.
I  look forward to meeting you and working with your children. On behalf of all the staff at Pumpkin Delight School, best wishes to your children for a happy and successful school year.

Sincerely,
Deborah Z.  Herbst, Principal
