The first step in a science lab report is the purpose/question or problem statement. You need to identify the problem or question that will be discussed in the report.
To start, have you have to completely read through the lab instructions provided by the teacher. The problem statement should be one of the first items in the instruction sheet. The necessary information and resources should be listed on this sheet as well. Remember in this part of your lab report you need to identify the independent and dependent variables. Also mention a control, if one was used. Example purpose/problem statements: The purpose of this lab was to find the relationship between the different types of salts and which one would melt ice faster. The purpose of this lab was to see if a change in weight will affect amount of energy produced. The purpose of this lab was to test how light effects plant growth.
