Play Ball!
Our first month of Physical
Education has been amazing. Each class was given the goal of developing their
team, which will work toward overcoming any obstacle Mr. B may present.
Students were asked to work as a cohesive unit and they already have made me very
proud. Teamwork and sportsmanship have been illustrated by many different ages
with a minimal amount of prompting from myself. I love to see the bond that
students exhibit when working in a friendly yet competitive atmosphere. While
the younger and older grades have participated in different activities, they
all have worked hard making my personal goal of each group becoming a united
team easily achieved.
Preschool, kindergarten, and first
grade began the year practicing locomotors and playing “Musical Hoops,” a game
designed to work gross motor skills, teamwork, and sharing. Students had the
chance to exercise and use their imagination while pretending to be animals
that run, jump, gallop, or skip. The laughter and smiles that fill the gym
while Mr. B chases the kids running to find a hoop they can share with a friend
is indescribable. I love participating in helping the little ones develop their
locomotors but sharing a laugh or assisting in creating a smile is the best.
Our older students (2nd-8th)
began this year by playing soccer. Sideline soccer is a modified version of the
popular sport that allows students to showcase what they can do on the field
without too many individuals fighting for a chance to touch the ball. With
sideline soccer students have the same amount of time to practice their skills.
Whether they were playing goalie, trying to score, or making an amazing pass,
all were working hard.
As we move on to T-ball and
Baseball I look forward to the many more moments of success that will exist in
the gym. Success in Mr. B’s Phys. Ed class comes in the form of working hard
and being a team player. In our first month of school I have seen many high
fives, heard loud pride filled cheers, and shared in the feeling of happiness.
In gym class no one has to be an all-star athlete but we do have to who work as
a team and try our best. As I say to the students “as long as you try your
best, you will always pass the test.”
Happy Autumn,
Mr. B
