Music In Our Lives at SJS

What is happening in Music class in March?
Wait where did March go?

Our Month in Music
Ever hear of Ireland... and traditional dance...That's what was happening in the music wing of St. Joseph School... Lots of loud, spirited music went along with the dancing... Rattlin Bog, a favorite song that we put to some more fun sounding percussion instruments
And while we are still on the topic of Irish music and dance.... we wrapped up our Irish music with Nora Ahern and Ailene Doherty demonstrating some Irish dancing on our school wide St. Patricks Day school assembly.  Singing and dancing was done by all!

Coming Very Soon...
Mr. McCormack
.. a professional trumpet player and grandfather... (to Andrew and David Mollenthiel)  He will be demonstrating on his trumpet for the school.. What is so great is, that during Feb. each of the students were given an opportunity to play on a trumpet.  Great...and scary sounds were heard coming from the music room that week... But, I am sure that the sound of the trumpet will never sound better to the students when they hear our guest performer.

Our own student dancers  will be dancing for us in early April.  We will have a Hip Hop demonstration... Highlighting some very talented ladies at SJS!

Congratulations!
To Jacob Hefele and Keelan Doherty who represented SJS in an Honor band concert on March 25th.  These two students were selected to play in a band made up of selected students from Catholic schools in Western Connecticut and Westchester County Catholic Schools... They practiced with a group of about 150 students for 3 weeks in Pelham NY.  We wish them continued success on their instruments.

And PreSchool...
All I can say is those darn Leprechauns did it again.  They managed to change my great musical instruments into potatoes... Good thing I know a few potato songs!!!
lots of singing and dancing continue to happen in music class.

We are beginning to see signs of spring so our songs in music will celebrate all that is wonderful about spring in music!  Lots of songs about bugs, bees, trees, birds... frogs and ducks... and fish...

3rd Grade Recorder
Moving right along on the recorder... Ode To Joy.  A piece by Beethoven.... The student have mastered the sound of B-A-G on the recorder... so now we are ready to add a few more new notes... We are trying hard to understand how to read music too... Learning an instrument AND learning to read music is hard work...but I am proud of the effort the students are making!

Mass Music
This month we will be learning Easter songs which will be sung at our school Masses.  I am THRILLED with the sound of singing voices at our school Masses.  Singing should be a joy for them... and I encourage each of them to participate in Mass by singing... To sing is to pray twice!
I would also like to thank sincerely Jack Guiry, Sean Guiry and Nora Yastremski who accompanied the school on the piano for our weekly Stations of the Cross.

The Final Act
Our cast of 66 students have been doing some amazing work afterschool in preparing for our spring musical, the Final Act.  Mark your calendars for Friday May 18, Saturday May 19 and Sunday May 20.  The performances will be entertaining... and fun!
