Home Activities

I encourage you to do the following:
*make flashcards for the 22 sight words. Practice them EVERY night. They
will need to memorize them.
*ask your child to practice writing their first and last name with the first
letter being uppercase and the rest lowercase.

Here are some simple phonemic awareness activities:
Rhyme time: Make up rhyming words together. ex. Cake ryhmes with
bake rhymes
with take, etc.

I Spy: Pick a letter sound and look around for the object that begins with
that letter. ex. I spy something that begins with /r/ and you put food in it.

Nature Walk: Find things in nature and ask your child what sound do
they
begin with.

Mystery Bag: Put 5 objects in a bag. (Ex. yarn) As your child pulls out the
yarn ask them what sound does it begin with /y/, clap the syllables for
the
object ex. 1 clap for yarn it only has 1 syllable, or give a rhyming word
for
the object ex. yarn, barn

Remember to read to your child each night. Ask them to tell you about
where
the story takes place in the pictures or talk about the characters. Ask
them
if the setting or characters remind them of anything( making a
connection).
Ask them if there was a problem and how was it solved. The more you
read to
them the more they learn!
