Homework Information

Students are expected to complete their nightly homework assignments Monday-Thursday, which includes daily independent reading. Students are not given homework over the weekend, unless there is a special assignment, project, or makeup work. Students are expected to continue daily independent reading over the weekend. Second grade students should do no more than 20-30 minutes of homework a night.

Starting MidOctober: Every Monday, your child will bring home a fresh reading log. The log should always be kept in the homework bag with his/her brain book and "just right" book. Please have your child record what he she has read under each day of the week. Logs will always be collected the following Monday when a new one goes home. Parents need to initial the log to show the reading was done. All students will now be bringing home a book from their independent reading bag for their 15-20 minutes of reading each night. This is to ensure that every child is reading at his/her "just right" level. It is very important that all students return their homework bags with their book, brain book, and reading log DAILY!! Therefore, students can continue reading the same book during the reading workshop or choose a new book from their independent reading bag to bring home. Brain book responses are not required every night, but students should try to record responses at least 2-3 times a week.
