--------------------------------------
Should my child read every school night?
Your child should have plenty of time to do 15 minutes of reading each night
along with his/her other homework. The most important homework your child can
do is read!! The more your child reads, the better reader he/she will become!
--------------------------------------
Do I need to send in a note if my child is tardy or absent?
Yes. A note is required if your child was tardy or absent. A note is
required even if you have called the office to notify them.
--------------------------------------
What happens if my child does not do their homework?
Homework is a very important part of the learning process. It is checked and
corrected daily. If there are five or more missing homework
assignments in any one academic area, your child won't be able to contribute
thoughtfully in class and will have difficulty keeping up with the class. If
a special circumstance, family illness, etc. arises and your child cannot
complete his/her homework, please send in a note. Furthermore, if there is
anything your child does not understand, please attach a note to the homework
so I can review it with him/her.
--------------------------------------
Can I send in goodies to be shared for my child's birthday?
No, unfortunately food allergies seem to be on the rise so no food items can
be brought in to share for a celebration. This is a school-wide precaution.
However, students can bring in pencils or stickers to share with their
classmates.
--------------------------------------
How do I know when my child has a test?
I will always send home a study guide that has already been worked on during
the school day, so your child simply needs to review and work on it again.
Tests or quizzes will usually be the next day, since the work has been done in
school.
--------------------------------------
What time does school start when there is a 90 minute delay?
Student's will be allowed to enter the building at 10:15 AM. School starts
at 10:25 AM.
--------------------------------------
What time are students allowed to enter the building on a regular school day?
Students are allowed to enter the building at 8:45 a.m. each day. No
student is allowed to enter the building before this time, unless special
arrangments have been made. Students enter classrooms at 8:55, and
attendance is taken by 9:00 a.m. each day. A student is marked tardy or
late, if he/she enters the classroom after 9:00 a.m. each day.
--------------------------------------
What is the five finger test for choosing reading material?
Have your child open to any page in their book they have chosen to read. If
he/she cannot read or does not understand the meaning of 5 or more words
then the book is a challenging book. If he/she cannot read 3 or 4 words
then the book is a just right book. If he/she cannot read only 1 or 2 words
then the book is an easy read for him/her.
--------------------------------------
Is there an opportunity to visit my child at school?
You may have lunch with your child at school. Simply sign in at the office,
get a visitor's pass and meet your child in the lunchroom during his/her
assigned lunchtime. There also may be other opportunities to share a craft,
read a story, etc throughout the school year. Simply send in a note, or email
me about your interest and we will work together to find an appropriate time.
--------------------------------------
Is there an opportunity to chaperone a field trip?
You may let me know of your interest to chaperone a trip, and I will try to
accomodate that as best I can. If there are many parents who want to
chaperone, we may need to choose names out of a hat. However, if there isn't
much interest, you may get an opportunity to attend more than one.
