Monthly Announcements

Welcome to a new school year! This month we will be working on establishing our classroom routines, and launching our readers, writers, and math workshops. We are very excited to pilot a math program called Math Investigations this year, with an emphasis on problem solving, discovery, teamwork and differentiated learning.

Homework will be an integral part of your child's learning. It is very important that your child return his/her reading bag DAILY, which will include his/her reader's response notebook, teacher tips, and independent reading book. If these things do not come back to school everyday, your child will not have the necessary tools he/she needs for the reading workshop. These things are sent home to establish the home/school connection and for your child to use the tips he/she has learned in school at home. For this reason, nothing is separated. The reader's response notebook that your child works on at school will also be the one sent home to be used for reading responses at home. This will help students use what they wrote in school to help them with responses at home. Also, both parents and students have the opportunity to look at the teacher tips together to aid them in what the student needs to be working on at home with his/her reading strategies.
