                     Mrs. Russo’s 4R News

                          Week 9/1-5/08

Religion: We will read and discuss the story God’s Paintbrush, as we celebrate the goodness of God and His love for us through the creation of the world. We will interpret God’s love through art using watercolors.

Reading: We will read and discuss a realistic fiction story: The Gardener . We will identify and use narrative elements such as plot, character, and setting to gain insight into characters’ motivations and actions. We will complete an assessment on Friday, 9/5.

Spelling: We will identify and spell words with long and short /a/ sounds. There will be a quiz on Friday, 9/5.

Math: We will practice writing the standard, word, and expanded forms of whole numbers to billions. We will identify the value of digits in whole numbers.

Science: We will complete an investigation by observing and comparing features of real and artificial sponges. We will also identify features of animals and describe how body plans and support systems are used to classify animals.

Social Studies: We will review features of a map and introduce a short map project that is due Friday, 9/5. We will present our map projects orally to the class.

Friendly Reminders:

We are pleased to have 2 class moms this year: Meg Soto and Laura Mathieson - thanks again for offering your time and talents. Also, thanks to all the lunch moms who jumped right in to cover lunch/recess duty over these last two weeks - I really appreciate your support! Again, anyone interested in volunteering /subbing for lunch duty, and/or any other events happening throughout the year should contact Meg or Laura for more information.

Thanks to all for a great first week!
