| Can you feel the spring fever? This is the time of year when students become
easily distracted from their studies due to sports, outside play, and of
course, the hot weather. Please make sure students are keeping up with
projects, due dates, etc. A thorough check of the student planner each day
should keep your student in great shape to succeed during the fourth quarter!
The following is the rubric for the 5th grade Spanish project due Thursday,
May 22:
Latin American Geography Project
Individual Project-Marking Period 4
Spanish- Mrs. Faucher
Due Date: Thursday, May 22, 2008.
Part One: Choosing a Country
Students will each choose a country for their project. More than two
students may not choose the same country (there are more than enough to go
around). Students will become an expert on their own country. Students will
complete a number of classroom activities that will become part of their
final project. These classroom activities may be taken home if they are not
completed in class. For their respective country, each student will research
and record the following items:
A brief history of the country (when it was established and by whom)
The political background of the country (wars, revolution,
independence, etc.)
The flag of the country
The official language(s) of the country
Important cultural aspects of the country (music, dance, art,
clothing, etc.)
Important people of the present and past of the country
A map drawn and labeled by the student (on poster board)
Information about the capital and other important cities
The religious background of the country’s citizens
The students should write a paper no shorter than two pages double-spaced and
no longer than 4 pages. The paper should be typed, double-spaced, and in size
12, Times New Roman font. Plenty of class time will be given for the
completion of the project, however, students may need to spend some time at
home working on the project as well. All students must include a bibliography.
(Students will be given time in the library and computer room for research
purposes)
Part Two: Presentation
Students will give a five-minute presentation on their country. They should
include presenting the map that they’ve drawn, talking about their research,
and explaining why their country is important within the Latin American
world. Posters may include more information than simply the map.
Presentations will be given on the due date ( May 22 ).
Grading will be done as follows:
Map/Poster of Latin American country: 30 points
Rough Draft/ Outline of Research 10 points
Essay (Organization, grammar, content) 30 points
Presentation (creativity, composure, etc.) 20 points
Bibliography 10 points
