Why do we have to take the Physical Fitness test?

The State of Connecticut requires each student in grades 4, 6, 8, and 10 to
do so. The State understands the importance of fitness, and wants each
student to be educated to understand and be fit for health reasons.

What IS the test?

It is a series of 4 tests: Curl-ups, Push-ups, a fexibility test, and a mile
run/walk. No one can fail these tests; instead they're used to understand a
child's current fitness status, establish a "baseline," and motivate
children
to be as active and fit as possible. The State of CT does, however, use
these scores as data.

What if I don't finish the mile run?

You walk, then when you feel better, you just run again! But jogging
comfortably the whole way is the best way to go.

What ARE the Health Fitness Components?

1-Flexibility (Stretching properly), 2-Muscular Strength (1 or 2
FULL "repetitions"), 3- Muscular Endurance (many repeated muscle
repetitions), 4-Cardiovascular Endurance (aerobic and anaerobic--your
heart "pumping" blood and oxygen--doing exercises that need this for a long
time)

How are our report card grades in Grades 3 - 5 determined?

At least two physical skills are taught and practiced each marking period.
These could be sport skills or exercises. The skills are then assessed. The
scores for each skill are combined to create an overall grade.
