Mission For The Class

Responsive Classroom Physical Education Rules:
-take care of yourself
-take care of each other
-take care of the things we use

Why is Physical Education important??
-to decrease the rising trend in child obesity, which leads to diseases such
as diabetes, heart disease and respiratory ailments
-it introduces children to essential health and skill related activities
that
can be enjoyed throughout life
-studies show a high correlation between physical activity and academic
achievement

How has Physical Education changed since I was in school?
-P.E. is no longer just "rolling out the ball." We believe in State and
National Standards, accountability, innovative ways to incorporate
activities, progressions, age-appropriateness, safety, and proper social
conduct.

CT State Physical Education Guidelines:

1- Physical Activity: Students will become competent in a variety of,
and proficient in a few, physical activities.
2- Human Movement: Students will understand and apply principles of
human movement to the learning and development of motor skills.
3- Fitness: Students will use fitness concepts to achieve and maintain a
        health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
4- Responsible Behavior: Students will exhibit responsible personal and
social behaviors in physical activity settings.
5- Respect for Differences: Students will exhibit an understanding of
and respect for differences among people in physical activity
settings
6- Benefits of Physical Activity: Students will understand how physical
activity provides personal enjoyment, challenge, and self-expression.

From the above, our mission is for each student to be "physically
educated"...

-to understand movement
-to move and play safely and efficiently
-fitness: to understand it and gain/keep it
-to value and respect movement and sport

To do all this while having fun!
