Literacy News:
We begin Theme Two: Into the Wild this week. Our first story will be Wolves
be Seymour Simon. What do you know about wolves already? What stories or
movies do you remember that have wolves as characters? How would you
describe those characters?
We will also continue our focus on story mapping (events, conclusion,
setting, etc.)
There will be a Language Arts assessment on sentences, predicates/subjects,
run-ons, and compound sentences.
Spelling List 4 test and packet due on Friday.
Math:
Unit 3 will wrap up this week. As assessment will happen before week's end
and then we will move into Unit 4, Division.
Have you reviewed your facts lately? What games have you played at home?
Can you make up a NEW GAME to share with the class? Is there any easier
version you can create to play with our First Grade Buddies?
Science:
Assessment this Wed. on Solar Energy and Moon Phases. Expect to see a review
sheet on Monday.
Other News:
Miss Lynam is at home resting and recuperating! I am feeling well and plan
on returning to school on Wednesday. Thank you for all your get-well wishes!
Veteran's Day parade this weekend. Be sure to have your instrument and all
necessary information from Mr. Salamone.
Family assignment coming soon: From which country (countries) does your
family hail? Who was the first person on Mom's side and/or Dad's side to
come to America? What year did that take place? Why did they come here?
What does the flag of that country look like? We talked briefly about
emmigration to the United States in our Math lesson on the U.S. Census. Do
you know that about 44% of students in our class speak another language at
home? Gathering this information will also help to prepare for our....
United Nations Feast on Tuesday, Nov. 24th from 11:30-12:30.
Please prepare a family favorite dish to share with the class. Sign up
sheets will be coming soon! Parents are invited to share
in the festivities! Students will also be preparing a short written
description of their family dish to share that day.
Jackets should be worn to school every day. We go outside often for recess
and PE.
We've done a great job of staying healthy so far this year! If your child
has a fever they MUST stay home until 24 hrs. AFTER the fever breaks. If
they are not feeling well, please keep them home. It helps them recover more
quickly and keeps thier neighbors from getting sick as well.
