February Music Newsletter
Carnation Sale Fundraiser: The music department will have its' annual Valentine's Day Carnation sale during all lunches this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday!
Goodbye Winter Concert: All band (including the 5th grade band making their world debut!) and chorus members will be performing their next concert on Thursday, March 25th at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
5th Band: Beginning in February, 5th grade band members will be having additional lessons due to the 6th grade band no longer rehearsing during G period. This will help our young musicians improve even more. Starting in March we will be rehearsing as a full band in preparation of our first concert on March 25th. This will be very exciting as it's the first time band members will be hearing the other instruments! It's very important that all band members have their instrument, folder and music book at each lesson. Band members will continue to have individual instrument lessons during recess on days 1 and 2 and during G period on days 2 and 3. The entire band will rehearse during G period on days 4,5 and 6. This reduction of G periods will require band members to have greater responsibility for their school work, especially if they are in both band and chorus. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns regarding this change in March.
6th Band: Thank you once again to Mr. Springer and Mrs. Popovich for supporting and assisting with our new band lab class! The entire band will be rehearsing during D period on days 1,3,5 and 7. Students will be able to leave their instrument in the band room. A letter was recently sent home detailing these changes and explaining the grading policy. Please read and sign this letter with your band member and have it returned as soon as possible.
Chorus: If your child is interested in joining the chorus please contact me or have your child speak to me directly. New members are currently being accepted as we prepare for our next concert. The chorus meets on days 1 and 7 during G period. Chorus members have begun rehearsing several new songs including Singabahambayo, a South African folk song with some challenging pronunciations, Poor Wayfaring Stranger, an American folk ballad and Viva La Vida, a pop song made famous by Coldplay.
