Subject: UConn ECE Student NetID - Library
and E-Portfolio Access
Good
Afternoon,
I hope this email finds you well -
already into the second week of classes. As the Add/Drop period starts to
wane and students are securely in their classes, it is the perfect time to talk
about student access to the University. Just like ECE Faculty, ECE
Students have access to the University Libraries and E-Portfolio System with
their NetID. Over the summer students received a letter from the
University Information Technology Services (UITS) Help Desk instructing them on
how to reset their NetID Password. Admittedly the letter that was sent
from the UITS Help Desk was not absolutely clear on the entire process of
resetting a NetID Password. Thus, this email will help you point your
students in the right direction. For security reasons the letter sent from
UITS did not include a student’s NetID. Students will need to get their
NetID first in order to complete the instructions in the letter. Students
can find their NetID online by going to: http://phonebook.uconn.edu/. If
students misplaced their letter they can reset their password the same way that
you can – call the UITS Help Desk at 860.486.HELP, option 3.
Once your students have reset their
password they can use two very useful tools at the University. First, they
can start using the online library resources like e-journals, databases, and all
subscription-restricted materials. Examples are not limited to:
online microfiche of the New York Times back to the 1850s, academic journals,
and foreign language papers and periodicals. Remember UConn subscribes to
40,000 different publications and spends approximately $3 Million for online
resources alone. Second, students can create an E-portfolio at: www.eportfolio.uconn.edu. The
e-portfolio system is a great tool to use during the college application
process. It is a multimedia resume where students can upload their past
work to showcase to an admissions counselor. Examples are not limited to:
photos of their art, mp3 files of music they have written, mp4 video files
of themselves in a school play, all word, excel, pdf, and PowerPoint
files.
Best
regards,
Brian
