Welcome to College Prep Physics with Mr Drenkard!  
Here is some introductory information you will want for success in this class.
Once we get going, most recent assignments will be listed at the bottom of this page.
Grading
1.      Tests, major lab reports, and projects, graded on a 0-100 scale, are 40% of your grade<o:p></o:p>
2.      Quizzes, lab activities and other small assignments are 40% of your grade.  +(100),/(80), -(50) or 0 basis. The best possible grade for homework not complete by the start of class on the due date is - (50).
3.      Class Citizenship will account for 20 % of the grade.  This includes being in class on time, meeting the THS dress code, following THS Student Manual behavior standards and participating constructively in group activities.  Full credit (100) will be assumed at the beginning with points taken off for specific disruptive incidents.  <o:p></o:p>
4.      Extra Credit can be obtained by entering science and technology competitions such as Duracell or Toshiba. Details can be obtained from the web or classroom binder.  Creating a classroom-learning tool such as an engine cut-away may also be considered for extra credit.  Extra Credit is intended to help students who are struggling with their test grades.  Extra Credit will not be available to students who frequently forget homework assignments or are frequently disruptive.<o:p></o:p>
<H3 style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">Written Work<o:p></o:p></H3>
I.                    Bring your notebook to class every day. The notebook  should be spiral or loose-leaf and include:<o:p></o:p>
1.                  Clear identification on the cover.<o:p></o:p>
2.                  Homework:   Chapter Review problem sets and/or questions should have a heading with your name and the chapter number. Problems should be clearly numbered. A problem set can be interrupted by a lab activity or class notes as long as the problem set is resumed with a continuation header.<o:p></o:p>
3.                  Chapter practice problems, classroom and home reading notes <o:p></o:p>
4.                  Lab activity  notes (if no formal report is assigned) including:<o:p></o:p>
a)                  data, <o:p></o:p>
b)                  notes <o:p></o:p>
c)                  Hand written calculations,<o:p></o:p>
d)                  Question answers should be clearly labeled.  <o:p></o:p>
e)                  If a formal report is not required, graphs and a short conclusion identifying what physical relationship was demonstrated by the lab should be hand written in the note book<o:p></o:p>
5.                  The website should be checked regularly to ensure notebook completeness.<o:p></o:p>
6.                  Notebook contents will be checked during tests. A +,/,- or 0 grade will be made for the assigned items in the notebook.   If you do not bring your notebook on a test day, The grades for all items since the last notebook check will be 0.<o:p></o:p>
II.                 Guidelines for assignments:<o:p></o:p>
A.                 Place a heading containing your name, Class Period, date and assignment identification. <o:p></o:p>
B.                 Attempt all parts of an assignment.        <o:p></o:p>
1.                  A wrong answer is acceptable.  No answer is unacceptable.<o:p></o:p>
2.                  If after trying, you can not answer a problem, Make a note in your notebook that will prompt you to ask  about the problem in the next class. <o:p></o:p>
C.                 For mathematical questions, sketch the problem, show all steps and units at every step.  <o:p></o:p>
D.                 Essay questions must be answered in complete sentences unless a list or table is specifically requested.<o:p></o:p>
E.                  Lab reports should follow the provided outline in the ACPP Documents page
F.                  When a textbook reading assignment is given, you are expected to complete all of the practice problems in your notebook, checking the answers in the back of the book. Some class time will be provided for this. <o:p></o:p>
III.               Cheating and plagiarism are not acceptable and will result in a 0 assignment, lab report or test grade.                  <o:p></o:p>
A.                 Lab reports are expected from each student.<o:p></o:p>
B.                 Do not copy anyone else�s work<o:p></o:p>
C.                 Do not cut and paste others� work to your own  <o:p></o:p>
D.                 Computer generated graphs must have your name included in the title text. (not handwritten on)<o:p></o:p>
E.                  Exception:: Lab data tables only may be copied<o:p></o:p>

Friction Lab
Use the provided materials to determine the effect on friction force and 
friction coefficient of:
1.         Normal Force
2.         Contact Surface Area
3.         Pulling Speed
4.         Surface Texture

�           In your procedure, note that if the block is not accelerating, then 
the net force acting on it is zero.
�           Write a full lab report 
�           Show sample calculations of friction coefficient.
�           Show data tables and/or graphs for each of the independent variables.
�           Your procedure should include multiple trials of each test 
�           Using the friction blocks alone does not give you enough friction to 
get precise results
�           Remember that when test one variable, you must keep all others 
constant as much as possible.

Force Vector Addition Lab  including lab sheets, three vector diagrams and answers to questions in your note book.
 
Notebooks have been checked throughout the marking period during tests.  Every body's notebook has been checked at least once to grade the notebook assignments.  Note book assignments not yet checked will be part of your MP2 grade.  When checking your grade on line, if  "mp1" appears for a notebook assignment grade, then that assignment was incorporated into the first marking period grade and you can remove it from your notebook abd store it at home,  If the asignment has a blank, then it will be graded when your notebook is next checked and incorporated into your MP2 grade.
 
Weight on an Incline lab sheets with data and question answers. Include three scale vector drawings reslving weight into parallel and perpendicular components in notebook.
 
Free Body practice sheet. Draw vector diagrams on both sides of sheet. Keep in notebook.
 
Trajectory prediction Lab - show drop time calculation, horizontal velocity calculation, range predictioon calculation and results for 3 different start positions in your notebook.
 
IT WAS VERY DISAPPOINTING THAT SO MANY STUDENTS NEGLECTED TO ATTEMPT THE CHAPTER 7 HOMEWORK, DESPITE SEVERAL EXTRA DAYS BEING GRANTED TO FACILITATE ASSIGNMENT COMPLETION.  
 
PHYSICS CAN NOT BE LEARNED BY LECTURE. PROBLEMS SOLUTIONS ALWAYS MAKE SENSE WHEN PRESENTED IN CLASS. PHYSICS IS LEARNED BY PRACTICE AND REVIEW PROBLEMS ATTEMPTED AT HOME CONCURRENTLY WITH CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION.
 
TO ENCOURAGE IMPROVED LEARNING AND BETTER PLANNING, LATE HOMEWORK WILL NO LONGER BE ACCEPTED FOR CREDIT.   IF YOU DO NOT DO YOUR HOMEWORK CONSISTENTLY, YOU SHOULD EXPECT TO FAIL PHYSICS.
