What tools are required for mathematics class?

Students should have a 3-ring LOOSELEAF BINDER with paper.
Sharpened pencils, a small ruler, and a scientific calculator (TI
30Xa or TI graphing calculator are suggested). Geometry students
will need an inexpensive compass and protractor as well (nothing
fancy--no architect's tools please!)

What is required for the Daily Participation part of a student's grade?

Students need to have COMPLETE HOMEWORK that is neatly done in
pencil. They need to bring their (covered) textbooks, and be
ready to actively participate in the HW discussion. They need to
be ON TIME to class, and to REMAIN IN class for the entire period
in order to be involved in the current lesson.

How can a student do well in mathematics?

Mathematics is skill-based as well as concept-centered, requiring
much practice and serious review daily. Like a sport, if the
skills are mastered, then the student can begin to learn how to
use them in applications (play the game well). STUDY! STUDY!

How are the grades determined?

The letter grades use Daily Participation, Homework, Quizzes and
Tests that have various weights in the average. Please refer to
your youngster's beginning of school materials to see the
percents used for his/her mathematics course.

Is there extra credit work?

The mathematics department feels students should put their effort
into learning the required materials. Teachers are available at
least once a week if students need extra help.

When is extra help?

Extra help is given after school until 3:00 on Thursdays unless
a meeting is scheduled. Help on Mon or Wed may be offered if
there are no scheduled meetings. Students should let me know
ahead of time that they are coming.

What is "extra help"?

Extra help is a brief session to clear up confusion on specific
examples that have been discussed in class. Since many students
from any of three different courses may be in attendance, it is
not intended to be a 1-on-1 session like tutoring. It is best if
students check my availability as soon as they have difficulty.
Students should be prepared with books, notes, and specific
examples for a fcoused and productive session.
