When is Mrs. McFarland available for extra help?
Mondays and Wednesdays after school and by appointment
You are encouraged to be proactive in seeking extra help as needed. Do not
wait until you are frustrated.

What is the attendance policy?
You are expected to be in class regularly. Refer to the school attendance
policy. Your parents and house principal will be notified if you cut class
and/or if tardiness becomes chronic. Refer to the handout given to you on
the first day of school for more information.

What is the homework policy?
All homework is due as assigned. Homework assignments will not be accepted
late, except under special circumstances. Homework assignments will be
posted on the board in the room, on this website and/or communicated to you
verbally. This website will be updated on a weekly basis. IT IS ALWAYS YOUR
RESPONSIBILITY TO KNOW WHAT THE HOMEWORK IS. Being absent is NOT an excuse
for not knowing what the HW is.

What are the guidelines for make-up work?
All make-up work should be completed within FIVE school days, except under
special circumstances. Work that is not made up in a timely fashion may
become a '0'. Make-up work is YOUR responsibility.

How will I be graded?
Your course grade will include (but is not limited to): homework, class
participation, quizzes, assessments, essays, in-class writing/activities,
oral assessments. In short, everything you do for class will count.

How can this website best be utilized?
Refer to this website for weekly assignments,reading assignments, and long
term assignments. Do not expect this site to be updated daily, although I
will try my best to do so! ALWAYS check the board in the classroom for the
most up-to-date homework assignmnents.

What books will we be reading this year?
In grade 9: To Kill a Mockingbird; Of Mice and Men; Romeo and Juliet; Animal
Farm; House on Mango Street; Fahrenheit 451.
In grade 10: Catcher in the Rye; Macbeth; Local Girls; Black Boy; Raisin in
the Sun; Streetcar Named Desire; Lord of the Flies.
