Computer Technology

First Topic - Microsoft Word - covers 5 weeks

  1. Flyers - students will create 5 fliers.  The first one is a picture and paragraph that describes them.  The second is word project 1 in the book (a flier for a ski resort).  The third is a lab creating a flier announcing auditions for a play.  The fourth is the student's creativity used in developing a flier to sell something advertised in the newspaper classifieds.  The last one is designing a one-page phone book ad/flier.
  2. Research Papers - the students will type three research papers (already written).  This unit teaches the student the correct MLA format to typing research papers, including how to do footnotes.
  3. Resumes and Cover Letters - First, the students learn to type a resume using resume wizard.  Second, the students will type a cover letter.  Once those are completed, the student must write two cover letters - one applying to a job, the other applying to a college.

Second Topic - Microsoft Excel - covers 5 weeks

Students will learn how to:

  1. Set up a spreadsheet.
  2. Graph data.
  3. Write If statements and use an assumptions box.
  4. Use absolute reference
  5. Use different sheets in their formulas
  6. Use If statements
  7. Look up data on the internet then chart and graph it
  8. Track stocks and chart and graph it.

Topic 3 - Access - 5 weeks

  1. Learn to use access as a database
  2. Learn to create tables and enter data into them
  3. Learn to create forms
  4. Learn to create reports
  5. Learn to add rows, fields, change data and maintain the database
  6. Learn to query data

 

Topic 4 - Power Point - 5 weeks

  1. Students must create a presentation from 5 made up words given to them by the teacher.  Students will pick one word and decide what product that word is and then sell the product in 6 slides.  Students will present to their row.
  2. Students will create a new TV show and design an 8-slide presentation to describe their new show idea.   Students will present to the teacher and their row.
  3. Students will create a presentation from a project or paper they have done in another class.  The presentation must be at least 10 slides.  Students must present to their row and me.
  4. Students will do a final presentation on a topic of their choice.  It must be a 3-minute presentation (as many slides as it takes).  Students will add music and must present to the entire class.
