December – Family Togetherness/Winter is Coming Theme
For the next week and a half, we’ll be focusing on forest animals, what we can do to help them prepare for winter, and the special times that we’ll spend with our families for the holidays! We’ll be learning and practicing concepts such as sorting, patterning, turn-taking, following directions, location terms, and sharing using objects that we see during this time of year! We’ll be developing these skills through hands-on learning activities using cookies, trees, fruit and animals that live in the woods! We may participate in learning activities such following directions to feed cookies, apples, and oranges to the woodland animals, patterning with food and stringing it onto licorice to feed the animals at home, and decorating our classroom tree with ‘apples, oranges, and popcorn balls’ for the animals. We’ll read books including Night Tree by Eve Bunting, Country Animals by Lucy Cousins and more! We’ll also be exposed songs related to our theme, and we’ll be learning about the color brown!
Color Clothing days are Wednesdays. This week, please send your child to school wearing one piece of brown clothing every Wednesday (Pants or Shirt). Thanks for your cooperation in this important and fun learning activity!
