Library time/ We Read At My House

PLEASE  RETURN  IN  JANUARY  2010

*Library books are due back each Wednesday so that your child can take out a new book!

We are excited to share with you how we are utilizing the Library here at TECEC! This is a weekly visit that will help your child learn the love for reading in a concrete and fun way! Each child was given a commitment form to be filled out by their parents that states the rules for the library such as: gentle care of the books and return the book within one week. We have a rotating parent volunteer come in to read a chosen book or two (either from their home, the town library or TECEC library) with our class as Miss Hane 'returns and checks out new books' with individual students. Each child is able pick a book that appeals to them including picture-only books, board books, pop up books, past theme related books, a new/ novel book or an old favorite!

The main thrill for the children is getting read to by a peers parent, traveling to another environment that is outside of their classroom and being able to sit on the carpet or couch instead of their normal cube chairs! There was a 'We read at my House' form sent home in the 'Book Buddy' bag that you can use to rate each book. Parents can fill out this form after you read each library book that comes home. When complete, send back into school.

I would like to commend our parent volunteers who have come in with their creative ideas to help bring the books alive! Examples include: bringing treats to eat that go along with the theme of the book (color goldfish for Color books), fire hats for each child to wear and take home that complements a Firefighter book and hands on props and music to go along with the book entitled Animal Boogie. If you have not signed up yet to be on the rotating schedule of parent volunteers or signed the commitment form so your child can 'check out' a book, please see Miss Hane!

Parent Volunteers and books they shared:

2010

TECEC LIBRARY

with Miss Hane's Class:

1. Thank you for returning your agreement slip, your child can now take out a book from our library!

2. Thank you to , 's Mom, our Library Parent for organizing the parent rotation!

3. Thank you to all of you, it will be a delight having you in our class/ library to read and share the love of books with our little chickadees!

4. The 'Book Buddy' bag that holds this letter and library book is for your child to use as a back and forth library bag.  This will ensure that the book is protected and that you know that this book is from our TECEC library. You may keep this bag at the end of the school year as a small token of my appreciation of your assistance in this learning skill!

5.Inside this bag is your childs' chosen library book.  Inside the book is a due date slip inside a pocket.  This is your reminder of when the book is due back.  It will usually be due back on a Wednesday to ensure a full week for the loan.

Thank you for agreeing with the following TECEC Library Guidelines:

  • TECEC Goal: To reinforce love of reading and introduce pre-literacy skills

  • Each child will be given a book on loan to return within one week.

* If loaned book is not returned, a similar replacement (price/type) will be made by the family*

  • Please care for books just like our town library

(no writing/ bending/ cutting of pages in the loaned book)

HAPPY READING!!
