On Wednesdays, we will partake in a special learning activity that is hands
on, concrete, fun and exciting!
In September, October and Novemeber, we will have COLOR days.
In Late November through December, we will have SHAPE Days.
*This skill will be learned in various modes such as: visual, tactile and
product based which is directly related to our literature theme set for that
week.
*Your child's participation is crucial for their own learning and that of the
entire class.
*For example, on RED day, we will all wear RED clothing, play with RED toys,
create a RED collage of multiple materials and read a book/ sing songs
focusing on the color RED. Moreover on CIRCLE day, we will create a
gingerbread boy with CIRCLE buttons, CIRCLE eyes, with various CIRCLE
materials such as foam, construction paper and fabric.
In January to May, we will have LIBRARY days.
*Parent participation is needed, 20 minutes max
*Our 'Library Parent' will be incharge of setting up a rotating schedule of
parents interested in reading.
*We will start this activity mid year to continue the 'specialness of
Wednesdays' and to also give the children a chance to properly adjust to the
school year and be ready for parents to volunteer successfully without
disruption to their newly learned school routine of transitioning from Home
to School.
*This activity will also create the ability for Miss Hane to work
individually with each child to 'pick' their own Library Book to take home!
*Depending on the availability of the Library/ Family Room, we will
transition to this room for a story and related 'treat'. If the room is
occupied (Head start meeting, PPT, speech session) then we will stay in the
classroom and do our special activity at circle or a large group table.
*Books read can be either family favorites or related to our weekly theme.
*We have had much sucess over the past 2 years with this weekly activity!
Examples of how parents have enriched our learning include, a Mom bringing in
her sons favorite firetruck book and singing the song set to music on a CD
while giving out fire helmets to each child to keep during our Fire Safety
Week!
